I learned that Gail, a college schoolmate of mine, opened a dessert restaurant called Gillian Gail Dessert Buffet, so I decided to eat there with some friends on my birthday.
With its cozy, homey, and inviting interior, Gillian Gail is the perfect place for people to satisfy their sweet tooth, as the dessert buffet, which costs PHP299 (and is inclusive of a drink) for 3 hours, offers a wide selection of sweet treats. Although the restaurant isn’t large, and the buffet area may seem small, don’t underestimate it! The restaurant maximizes the small space to hold as many sweets as possible: cakes, ice cream, cupcakes, gummies, brownies, cookies, candy, creampuffs, marshmallows, and more. The sweets are even arranged neatly and charmingly: for instance, there was a ferris wheel-shaped stand that held several cupcakes.
Those aren’t even the only sweets on the menu. There are some sweets and pastries that can be ordered (also as part of the buffet). The servers gave us slips of paper listing the other sweets, such as creme brulee, crepes, macarons, panna cotta, and palitaw. I especially liked the creme brulee and the panna cotta; both had a delightfully creamy texture and weren’t too sweet. The cheesecake was also delicious.
For those who want something savory with their sweets, Gillian Gail’s got you covered. For PHP399, you get the dessert buffet, a drink, and a rice meal of your choice. When I visited, you could choose between salmon or chicken, with pineapple orange, herby pineapple, or mango sauce. I ordered pineapple orange chicken. While some of the chicken was a bit dry, I still enjoyed it because of the sauce.
Last I heard, Gillian Gail has added more rice toppings, such as Korean buffalo chicken and siomai, since then (but I’m not sure if the PHP399 set covers them, or if they’re a la carte items).
The dessert buffet also has one food item that’s unlike the rest: nachos. (I’m not sure if the buffet has expanded to include other savory items since my visit in August.) I’m a sucker for cheese, and, to my delight, the cheese dip was good.
If the dessert buffet is too much for you, Gillian Gail also has an a la carte menu. You can even take home boxes of macarons or cupcakes.
My friends and I enjoyed our lunch at Gillian Gail, and I think many of us left feeling full and in a sugar rush. We had a relaxing time at the restaurant, as its ambiance was very relaxing – so much that I can imagine holding a tea party there. If you ever feel the urge to have some tea and sweets, drop by Gillian Gail Dessert Buffet sometime. They’ve got some Christmas promos now, so a trip to Gillian Gail shouldn’t hurt your wallet much. (But then, even at its regular price, it’s not that expensive, considering that it’s a buffet!)
